Donate Extra Texts to DRS/Peer Tutoring for Re-purposing
January 19, 2007 | EditorDisability Resource Services (DRS) and the Peer Tutoring Program have teamed up to “re-purpose textbooks. DRS accommodates students with disabilities who require texts in alternative formats. This means buying the book (the student must buy the book as well) and tearing apart the textbook. The pages are then scanned and text-to-speech software is used to convert it into an MP3 format so the student can listen to the text.
Rather than just recycling the paper, DRS has been donating these to the Peer Tutoring Program. Peer Tutoring rebinds these texts and makes them available as references for instructors, tutors and tutees in the Truax Learning Center.
If anyone has an extra copy of a current text and would like to donate it for use in the Learning Center, please contact Susan Pitts (246-6731). If anyone has questions about text conversion please contact Scott Ritter (246-6217).
