Withdrawing Students for Non-attendance

MATC’s attendance policy is stated as follows:

“A student who is absent 25 percent or more of the total scheduled class periods or for 16 consecutive calendar days (not class meetings), may be withdrawn from that class by the instructor.”

Once you receive your Class Grade Roster(s), third week of the semester, please process the student with a W or N(never attended) grade for students who fall within this policy.

To drop a student before class rosters are distributed inform the appropriate Learning Program office to withdraw the student or contact the Enrollment Center at extension 6210 or records@matcmadison.edu.

Veteran/Youth Options

The Veterans Administration regulations require MATC to report promptly any changes in student status in order to preclude erroneous payments to veterans. The institution is liable for any overpayment made to a veteran if a late report for classes from which he/she has withdrawn is submitted.

Youth Options students are covered under the Compulsory School Attendance Law (118.15) and must be enrolled at MATC or a high school. They have approval from their high school to attend specific course(s) at MATC for which the high school is paying tuition. Students are required to return to their high school if they drop or are withdrawn from MATC.

For this reason we are requesting that you immediately withdraw any student whose attendance pattern fails the standard as identified in MATC’s attendance policy.

Grade of Audit

All students who have registered for an audit grade, have the letters “AU” pre-printed in the grade area on your class roster. Please keep the following in mind:

  1. Exclude audit students when examinations or evaluations are given. They are entitled to all other student privileges.
  2. A grade of audit should not be issued as a final grade. Students must have registered with Learning Programs at the beginning of the semester for an audit status.

Pre-printed Information

Grades and hours present that are pre-printed on rosters issued later in the semester need no further action.

Return your roster(s) to the Enrollment Center to communicate student status information (dropping a student, requesting student reinstatement, issuing a final grade).

Thank you for your cooperation.
