This spring break we are very excited about the four alternative spring break trips we are offering to students.
We are able to take 50 students to New Orleans to help with gutting of homes and construction efforts. The students will stay in a dormitory style complex with 24-hour security and a recreation area. They will meet with community members to talk with them about their plight. They will spend the week doing service and learning about the history and culture of New Orleans.
We can take 10 students to Washington DC to serve at pantries and work in shelters. The students will learn about issue of urban poverty while serving the community. They will also meet with homeless individuals and listen to their stories. They will have the opportunity to be homeless for 24 hours, while in the city.
For the trip to New York City we can take 10 students to learn about HIV and AIDS as well as urban poverty. The students will prepare and deliver meals to homebound families. The students will also see and experience all of the historical and cultural aspects of New York.
Lastly, we can take 20 students to the Appalachian Mountains in W. Virginia to experience life in a coal mining, rural poverty‑striken community. The students will take part in cave explorations and fix and restore dwellings for the families in the area. For fun they will take part in a white‑water rafting trip.
Applications (Word, 44KB) are due on February 14, fact sheets for all trips are available in Student Life. For more information contact me!
