100 MATC students will be traveling to New Orleans, Washington DC, New York City and the Appalachia Mountains in West Virginia to take part in an Alternative Spring Break Trip coordinated through the MATC Volunteer Center. All donations can be brought to Student Life; checks should be made payable to the MATC Foundation.

We are able to take 50 students to New Orleans to help with gutting of homes and construction efforts. The cost for the trip is $400. We can take 10 students to Washington DC to serve at pantries and work in shelters. The cost is $475. For the trip to New York City, we can take 10 students to learn about HIV and AIDS as well as urban poverty. The cost is $475. Lastly, we can take 20 students to the Appalachian Mountains in W. Virginia to experience life in a coal mining, rural poverty‑stricken community. The cost is $475 for the trip. The costs cited for all trips is all-inclusive.

Prior to going on the trips all of the students will participate in 2 orientations. One session will provide an opportunity for team building, information sharing and a conference call with the agency so that any outstanding questions can be answered. The second orientation involves performing community service in our own community.

We have had great interest from students to take part in this service experience. However, many students have expressed concerns about the issue of whether they could afford to participate. We are seeking donations.

We accept check or cash donations, donations can be brought to Student Life. You can also donate to this program through the MATC Foundation website with a credit card or set up a payroll deduction, where they can take $1, $2, $3, whatever you would like out of your paycheck every pay period. We will provide daily reports from the group with photos on the MATC Website so you can see everyday during spring break the progress the groups are making. As a donor you will also be invited to the Reorientation session after the students return from the trip to hear first hand about their experience.

Thank you for your continued commitment to our students!
