Clarion Wins State Awards

The Wisconsin Newspaper Association presented 12 awards to The Clarion at the association’s annual convention on Friday, Feburary 9, at the Kalahari Resort in Lake Delton.

Awards received were:

  • Second place - general excellence.
  • First place - graphics, Thomas Washbush.
  • Second place - photography, Cory Lyle, for a photo package called “Life on the Farm.”
  • Second place - general reporting, Duffy Hery, for an article titled “Visually Impaired Lack Access to Web site.”
  • Second place - best advertisement, Thomas Washbush, for an advertisement for Dream Lanes.
  • Third place - graphics, Christy Stetson.
  • Third place - best advertisement, Thomas Washbush, for an advertisement entitled “Sick of Living in Dumps?”
  • Certificate of merit - sports reporting, Shannon Green, for an article titled “All Eyes on Him.”
  • Certificate of merit - feature writing, Heidi Freymiller, for an article titled “Seeking Assylum.”
  • Certificate of merit - feature writing, Meagan Parrish, for an article titled “Rebuilding a Life.”
  • Certificate of merit -column writing, Melissa Stelter, for an article titled “Vaccine Not a Moral Issue.”
  • Certificate of merit - best editorial, Melissa Stelter, “MATC Transfer Students Ready.”

The Clarion is MATC’s student‑produced newspaper. It is available on newspaper racks at all campuses and online.
