Educational Programming Board March Events

Educational Programming Board (EPB) presents a variety of events for March:

EPB continues a three-part series, as part of Black History Month. In the first event, we will explore the roots and versatility of Afro‑Caribbean percussion. In our next event, the Brazilian martial art form of Capoeira will be demonstrated by the Omulu Capoeira Toupe. Next will be Salsa Viva!! Salsa dance lessons will be offered during the lunch hour and also in the evening with the live band, Grupo En Fuego.

Following is a list of dates/locations/times of these upcoming events for March:

Thursdays, March 1 and 8
Percussion Workshops in Room 129C, Truax, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Come join us for interactive, hands‑on demonstration/workshops with drum‑masters, Rae‑Own and Rockameem. Learn about the origins of African and Afro‑Caribbean drumming/percussion. The hosts will teach specific rhythms and students will have the opportunity to play various instruments.

Tuesday, March 6
Brazilian Capoeira Demonstration/Workshop in the Truax Cafeteria, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Jose Armacanqui and the Omulu Capoeira Troupe will demonstrate basic moves and songs of this Brazilian martial art. Students will be invited to come learn some basic techniques.

Thursday, March 15
Salsa Dance lessons in the Truax Cafeteria, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Salsa Dance lessons and Salsa Dance Fiesta, Truax Cafeteria, 6‑9:30 p.m.

Come and learn salsa dance steps, over your lunch break, then return in the evening with friends and family and practice those steps to a live band. During the lunch hour come and learn basic salsa steps with dance instructor, Sodie Rivera. During the evening from 6‑7 p.m., learn advance steps, then “shake it” to the live tunes of Grupo En Fuego from 6:30‑9 p.m.
