Daylight Savings Time and Your Electronic Calendar
March 6, 2007 | EditorPlease remember that next Sunday, March 11, Daylight Savings Time will begin three weeks earlier than in the past. If you use GroupWise, a PDA or other forms of electronic calendaring, this change requires your attention as some - but not all - of your appointments may appear to be one hour later than intended.
Until they are patched, computers that rely on a correct date and time setting will presume that Daylight Savings Time begins on April 1 - as it did in previous years. Prior to March 11, there are five important things that you can do:
- Pay attention to Technology Services bulletins on this topic - especially if you use a PDA. Additional communications are likely later in the week.
- For all of your appointments during the “Early Daylight Savings Time period (3/11/07-3/31/07), determine the correct start time. DO NOT attempt to correct your calendar until March 11, and until you know your computer and PDA are patched.
- For all new appointments during the Early Daylight Savings Time period, include the time of the meeting in the Subject line of the meeting request so that invitees can double check the correct meeting time.
- Avoid creating new appointments that occur during the Early Daylight Savings Time period directly on your PDA. It is much better to enter appointments in GroupWise first.
- Patch your personal computers and PDAs.
Technology Services has been patching all standard MATC computers. On an MATC Windows-based desktop or laptop computer, you should see an icon on your desktop indicating “Daylight Savings Time 2007 Enabled when you login to the network. This icon is your assurance that the Daylight Savings Time patches have been applied.
