If your work schedule permits, please volunteer as a tour guide for a special event we are hosting with Governor Jim Doyle and First Lady Jessica Doyle next Thursday, May 10. We may need as many as 25 tour guides.

MATC will take part in the launch of the Wisconsin Covenant Scholars Program.* We are one of 10 sites across the state selected to host such an event on May 10 or 11 and the only site to be visited by both the Governor and First Lady. As part of the activities, in the morning we will provide a group of 8th graders a “slice of college life” through tours, a student panel and interactive displays. After lunch, they will attend a pep rally and press event with the Governor and First Lady.

We need volunteers to each guide 2 groups of 10 students throughout the first floor of Truax on:

Thursday, May 10 between 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. (each back-to-back tour group will be 30 minutes)

In addition, we ask you or your staff members to attend one 30-minute tour guide training session offered at these times:

Tuesday, May 8
8, 8:30 or 9 a.m.

Wednesday, May 9
8, 8:30 or 9 a.m., or 2, 2:30, 3, 3:30 or 4 p.m.

You also are welcome to attend the pep rally and press event that will follow the tours between 1:15 and 2:15 p.m. in the Mitby Theater.

Please contact Marjorie Cook at ext. 6921 as soon as possible if you are able to volunteer to serve as a tour guide. Also, please indicate the training session you will attend.

*The Wisconsin Covenant Scholars Program was proposed by Governor Doyle in his State of the State Address to encourage young people to pursue higher education and to increase the number of college graduates in the state. He has included funding for it in his budget. The Covenant, available to this first class of 8th graders eligible for the program, is a pledge students take as 8th graders to prepare for college, get good grades and be a good citizen. Those who meet the pledge requirements can expect to attend college at a University of Wisconsin institution, Wisconsin Technical College or private college or university in Wisconsin.
