CETL reminds you of an important event taking place this summer that all faculty members may be interested in joining. On Friday July 20, CETL will host the first ever Fundamentals of Mentoring Workshop at MATC.

This workshop will be led by Patrick Barlow and Jackye Thomas and feature materials developed by the New Teacher Center at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and other partners who specialize in mentor development. We will explore the role of a mentor, best practices in mentoring, the development of a mentoring relationship, and many other aspects in this one day exploration of our mentoring skills and practices.

As you know the college continues to hire large numbers of new full time faculty who will need mentoring. Along with this we are launching the Part‑Time Faculty Mentoring project where we will attempt to provide mentoring services to all new PT facuty as well. We may hire in excess of 100 new PT faculty each year. For these reasons we need to increase the number of available quality mentors. So, we need you!

This workshop runs from 8:30 a.m.‑4:30 p.m., lunch and all materials are included in your registration. The workshop counts for two recertification credits for those in the “Five Year” certification status. Mentors who complete the workshop will be offered an additional inducement to sign‑on as mentors.

Please join us on July 20. Registration is via the CETL Web page. Once in the registration system, select Professional Development Workshops and then select Fundamentals of Mentoring. You will receive a confirmation via email immediately, then another final confirmation approximately 10 days prior to the event.
