Multicultural Pre-College Summer Youth Program underway
July 11, 2007 | EditorToday is the first day of our summer youth program, The MPCP (Multicultural Pre-College Program). We have titled the program “A.I.M. Achieve, Inspire, Motivate.” We have targeted high school freshman but will have a mix from ninth-12th grade. Students will spend an hour each day doing career development and then have an opportunity to explore hands-on a career area of choice. The career exploration is for four weeks.
We have MATC faculty providing the instruction in the areas of culinary, graphic arts, IT, electronics, auto, fire academy, First Responder (CPR) and Grey’s Anatomy (anatomy and physiology). In addition, there will be three weeks of performing arts options for those who want to explore these areas, too.
This is a change from last years Inspire + program. We have a stronger career exploration and career development component. In addition, the culminating experience will allow for each student to share their dreams and plans for the future. Their portfolios will be presented in a gallery setting and some via performance.
I am very excited about the enthusiasm of our faculty. Next year, we hope to have academies that allow for greater participation of students and more intense exploratory opportunities.
Thanks to all who are participating in this program!
