Math Club presents, “Who’s Guarding the Gallery?” on Wednesday, September 5, from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m., in Truax, room 209.
Welcome to Math Club’s season #16 and monthly presentation #64. You and your students are invited. Students are eligible for a door prize: Graphing Calculator.
This month’s speaker: Professor Clement Jeske, UW–Platteville. He will discuss this scenario:
An art gallery is in the shape of a polygon with n sides. What is the minimum number of guards that are needed so that every point in the gallery can be seen by at least one guard? Where should the guards be placed? Is the answer different if the gallery has a more traditional orthogonal shape where all walls meet at right angles?
Reception from 4:30 to 5 p.m. in room 209 will follow the discussion.
