MATC Matters

The District’s risk management responsibilities have historically been housed in the finance area and more specifically have been the responsibility of the Director of Finance or the CFO with assistance from their support person. The recent restructuring within the Infrastructure Services area has identified an opportunity to move these tasks under the direction of the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) office, which is under the competent, professional direction of Cynthia Eghbalnia. Cynthia will report directly to the Director of Facilities, but will have immediate access to the office of the Vice President of Infrastructure Services regarding risk management issues.

Responsibilities moving immediately to EH&S include the District’s insurance renewals, certificates of insurance, incident and accident claims, foreign travel, motor vehicle records, vehicle insurance and representation on the statewide risk managers group. The above responsibilities are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive, but will provide you with a better understanding of what Cynthia’s area will be acquiring in regard to risk management. Due to the sensitivity and confidentiality of some matters, my office will continue to handle all Educators Legal Liability (ELL) issues and any issues that accelerate to a point where legal counsel is required.

The support Bonnie Vandre-Blewett has provided in the past in regard to risk management will now be provided by Lori Stier. Because the EH&S office is under the umbrella of Infrastructure Services, Bonnie will be available to answer questions and share her knowledge with Lori.
