RE: Email Virus Alert

A bogus email has been sent to some District GroupWise users notifying them of a complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau. The email is bogus and the attachment may contain a virus. The bogus email is now being blocked. However, variations of this email may continue to be sent. If your receive email similar to the sample below – Delete it. DO NOT OPEN the attachment. A sample of the bogus email is provided in the email version of this bulletin sent to all employees

If you received the bogus email and opened the attachment please contact the Help Desk at 246-6666.

Technology Services reminds email users to follow some basic email security tips.

  • Email users should be wary of unexpected attachments.
  • Be sure you know the source of an attachment before opening it. It is not enough that the mail originated from an email address you recognize. Many email viruses have spread precisely because it originated from a familiar email address.
  • Do not open attachments that come with email messages that have unusual or strange combinations of text in the subject line or in the body of the email message.
  • If you receive unexpected email, your best course of action is to delete the email prior to opening it.

If you have questions or concerns please contact Terrie Thorstad at 246-6113.
