Craig Plain hired as Director/Flexible and Emerging Learning Opportunities

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Craig Plain to the position of Director/Flexible and Emerging Learning Opportunities.

In his role as director, Craig will provide leadership and direction in nurturing, piloting, and institutionalizing emerging learning opportunities in new cross-disciplinary content areas and the development and implementation of flexible learning strategies for all programs of study. Craig is responsible for:

  • leading, facilitating, and supporting the development of flexible learning alternatives for MATC programs,
  • shepherding emerging programs through development towards the appropriate structural homes,
  • researching, communicating and building expertise in future trends in delivery of education at the college level,
  • administering funding targeted to new and emerging program areas, and
  • recommending promising areas for new program development outside of existing MATC structures.

Craig’s educational background includes a Masters Degree in Economics with emphasis in Management, and he is in the process of completing a Ph.D. in Administrative Leadership in Adult Education.

Work experience Craig brings to the College includes quality management, training development and delivery, organizational development, and innovation. He is trained in Six Sigma, Lean, and Total Quality Management. He is a Six Sigma Greenbelt and a Master Process Officer for U.S. Air Force Quality programs.

Craig comes to us from General Electric Healthcare in Waukesha, WI. In his role as Quality Leader-GE Healthcare Institute, Craig has been responsible for ensuring the quality of their technical training program, including overseeing the training development program, as well as tracking quality metrics. Prior to that, Craig was a Training Program Manager with General Electric Healthcare. Craig oversaw matrix teams that developed computer-based training, in-residence courses, and blended training solutions, which included both technical and soft skills.

Other leadership positions Craig has held in training organizations include an Academic Dean position for the fastest growing proprietary school in Milwaukee and a position as Administrative Commander of an Air Force training group that graduated over 10,000 students per year. He continues to serve as a Squadron Commander in the Wisconsin Air National Guard.

Craig’s instructional work experience includes teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of economics, quality assurance, education, management, systems thinking, and other general business courses.
