MATC Truax Transit Shelter

The Student Activities Board (SAB) in cooperation with MATC Facilities and Instructional staff has created plans for a new Student Transit Shelter Structure. This project will create a shelter structure for persons awaiting transportation at the bus stop and park benches between the main building and administrative building at the Truax campus. This area is used most frequently by MATC students with special transportation needs (including students that use wheelchairs, guide dogs, or have other mobility restrictions).

Currently, the area consists of an uncovered park bench, leaving students exposed to the elements during inclement weather. The SAB has formed a committee and created plans for a new shelter structure that would serve this important part of the student population. A new glass walled shelter structure will include lighting (operated by occupancy sensors) and heated floor in the winter. An emergency call station will also be provided. The system will produce 10 watts per square foot with a maximum of 900 watts total. This is roughly equivalent to the load of a small family home. Contruction work will begin October 22, 2007, and be completed November 21, 2007, weather permitting.
