The Clarion staff received the 2006-2007 National Newspaper Pacemaker Award on Oct. 27 at the Association Collegiate Press National College Media Convention in Washington, D.C.

The MATC student paper had been nominated five times, including the last four years, but this is the first time has won the award.

The Pacemaker Award recognizes general excellence and outstanding achievement by a college newspaper in a national competition. Winners are selected based upon coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership on the opinion page, evidence of in-depth reporting, design, photography, art and graphics.

A total of 21 colleges received the award nationwide. A complete list of the winners is available at the Associated Collegiate Press website.

The Clarion also received a second-place award in Best of Show for two-year colleges with publication entries of 16 pages or less. All newspapers attending the convention were eligible to compete.

Congratulations to The Clarion!
