The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Wisconsin) is sponsoring the Wisconsin debut of the award-winning feature film, Canvas, on November 8, in Mitby Theater at Truax. Showings will be 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. A catered reception will be held between showings and will feature Honorary Chairperson Patti Loew, author and host of Wisconsin Public TV’s “In Wisconsin,” and Honorary Chair Nancy Abraham, a NAMI founding member.

Canvas, inspired by a powerful true story, portrays the effects of major mental illness on a family. Writer/Director Joseph Greco’s tale of a 10-year-old boy coping with his mother’s schizophrenia is a fresh take on the subject. Outstanding performances are turned in by the lead actors, including Academy Award-winner Marcia Gay Harden and Emmy Award-winner Joe Pantoliano.

Tickets are available through NAMI Wisconsin, (608) 268-6000 or (800) 236-2988, and from the Mitby Theater Box Office, (608) 243-4000. Ticket prices are $10 for the movie and $25 for the catered reception. Proceeds from the event will fund education and support programs to improve outcomes for people and families impacted by mental illness.
