MATC GETS MONSANTO GRANT
Monsanto, a worldwide agricultural biotechnology company, has awarded a $10,000 grant to the biotechnology program at Madison Area Technical College.
The grant will allow MATC to upgrade equipment and enable it to perform a technique called quantitative polymerase chain reaction, according to biotechnology program director Jeanette Mowery.
“This technique is used for determining the level of expression of individual genes and is especially useful if the amount of sample is limited,” Mowery said.
In order to take advantage of the equipment upgrade, a new curriculum will be developed in MATC’s post-baccalaureate certificate program courses as well as in its Research Methods for Molecular Biology course, she said.
