The Clarion wins several state awards

The Clarion has received 11 awards, including first place for General Excellence, as part of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association College Newspaper Contest. The awards were presented Feb. 1 as part of the WNA’s annual convention, held in Wisconsin Dells.

As part of their assessment of The Clarion, the judges wrote that the “paper manages to be fun, edgy and relevant, but doesn’t neglect more traditional content.”

In addition to the General Excellence award, the following individual awards were presented:

  • First place, graphics, Cathrine Botzum and Rachel McNeill
  • First place, best editorial, Clarion editorial board
  • Second place, best advertisement, Ryan Campbell
  • Second place, graphics, Cynthia Jacobs
  • Second place, photography, Devin Abshere
  • Second place, general reporting, Shannon Green
  • Third place, best editorial, Amy Knapp
  • Honorable mention, general reporting, Callie Reger
  • Honorable mention, feature writing, Melissa Stelter
  • Honorable mention, graphics, Christy Stetson
