Interior Design students take top awards at competition

On Thursday, February 21, MATC’s Interior Design program students participated in an annual Interior Design Competition, held this year at Monona Terrace, and took home 17 of 24 top awards. Waukesha County Technical College and Gateway Technical College also had students in attendance at the competition, which is open to all Wisconsin Technical College System interior design program students.
Students competed in several categories, testing their knowledge of textiles and history of furniture in a written exam, as well as testing their skills in an “on the spot” design charrette in Residential, Commercial or Kitchen Design. After the rigorous three-hour charrette, participants toured the Monona Terrace facility in addition to learning about “greenâ€? furniture and sustainable living as a part of the day, which was themed, “EcoChic 2008: Design with Sustainable Sophistication.” Interior design professionals specializing in residential, commercial or kitchen design judged the students’ projects.
