About the Devi Bhargava awards
The Devi Bhargava Memorial fund was established in 1999 after the death of one of our very dear colleagues, Devi Bhargava. Devi’s life work was with students who have disabilities and as a legacy of that work, wo awards were set up. One goes to a graduating student with a disability who is nominated by the faculty or staff ($500) and the other is for a faculty or staff person who demonstrates special understanding and support for students with disabilities. This group is nominated by students.

Nominations needed
It’s now time for us to collect nominations for the student award. We need your help in nominating a student with a disability who either graduated in December or is graduating in Spring who you think has:

a. overcome substantial barriers during his/her academic career;
b. has worked at being a successful self-advocate;
c. has achieved academic success; and
d. has contributed to an understanding of the issues surrounding disabilities either on a one-on-one basis or with a larger audience.

When nominating someone, we would like you to consider the above factors as well as giving us one or two examples of why you think the student you are nominating best exemplifies the outlined characteristics.

Names of nominees can be sent to: Sandy Hall. The deadline for submission nominations is noon on Monday March 24, the selection committee (ADA/504 Committee) meets that afternoon. If you have questions please contact Sandy Hall.

Thank you.
