2008 Susan G. Komen Madison Race for a Cure
Run. Walk. Get inspired. Get involved.
Join more than 1 million participants worldwide-and make a difference.
Madison Area Technical College is forming a team again this year for the Susan G. Komen Madison Race for a Cure event on Saturday, May 31. This 5K run/walk and 1 mile fun walk benefit the Madison affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Why should you become involved in this important fund raiser? Because breast cancer touches so many of us:
- In 2008, an estimated 178,480 new cases of breast cancer are expected to occur among women in the United States; 40,460 will die.
- An estimated 1,990 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer; 450 will die.
Race for the Cure only requires about 3 hours of your time on a Saturday morning, and it’s a great opportunity to get together with co-workers for some exercise and fun. And don’t forget those snappy t-shirts!
The schedule for race day:

- Click on the pink “Register” box on the left side of the screen
- Click on “register for an existing team
- Enter “MATC” when asked for team name
Complete the requested information and be sure to indicate your t-shirt size. MATC captain Ellen Hustad will take care of picking up the t-shirts and other materials and getting them distributed to team members a day or two prior to the event.
But why stop there? If you’re interested in collecting pledges for this important cause, use the tools provided on the website. Set a fundraising goal for yourself and then ask your family, friends and co-workers to assist you in reaching that goal.
NEW THIS YEAR! If you want to participate but just can’t make it to the walk on June 2, you can sign-up online for the $30 “sleep in” registration. Your t-shirt will be shipped to you after the race.
The mission of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease through the advancement of research, education, screening and treatment. There will be over 100 Komen Race for the Cure events held throughout the country during 2008. Do your part in Madison ….Let’s keep up the good work!
