Math Awareness Month-Check out the Human Calculator
April 17, 2008 | EditorMathematics Awareness Month celebrations continue with the Human Calculator and other events on April 25. You and you students are invited to join the celebrations.
- Noon: 142a-Why Knot? Professor Colin Adams, Williams College, MA, co‑star of “The Great PI/e Debate”
- 5:30 p.m.: “Face Off” (Mitby Theater)-A math game show for college students, presented by the Math faculty of UW‑Oshkosh
- 8 p.m.: “The Secrets of Mental Math”-Professor Art Benjamin, Harvey Mudd College, CA. Reader’s Digest calls him “America’s Best Math Whiz” a.k.a the Human Calculator/MathemagicianArt is a mathematician who performs his mixture of math and magic to audiences all over the world, including the Magic Castle in Hollywood. He has demonstrated and explained his calculating talents in his book “Secrets of Mental Math” and on numerous television and radio programs, including The Today Show, CNN, NPR. He has been featured in Scientific American, People, NY Times, LA Times and Reader’s Digest.
This presentation is open to the public (Mitby Theater). Students and teachers are invited to attend this unique event-FIRST time in Madison!
