A note from Cindy Bowen:
Greetings,
Here’s the latest update on the MATC-Fort Atkinson building project (PDF: 316KB) In spite of the repeated rains, we are making progress.
THIS WEEK
- Steel beams are up
- Roof decking is starting to be put in place
- Portico from the front entry is being removed
- Geothermal tank is poured and will be waterproof as soon as we get a few days of dry weather
- Beneath grade plumbing is ongoing (they were bailing rain water again this morning!)
- Replaced curb on Banker Rd.
- Gas lines/meter have been relocated and WE Energies will be coming to complete their work soon
- Part of the server room wall in room 120 has been removed
- Some concrete in room 120 is being removed to make room for a support wall for part-time faculty office room
- Brick wall has been cut out to create the doorway to the new part-time faculty offices
- Master clock system is installed; Chad has some clocks up and running in classrooms
Students, faculty, staff and contractors enjoyed picnics on MATC’s north lawn on last Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday evening. We caught a break in the weather on Tuesday and enjoyed sunshine while we ate! The Wednesday group ate indoors.
Thank you to Carol, Kelly, Lauri, Pam, Chad, and Paul for their help in getting the picnics organized.
NEXT WEEK
- Work begins Monday on the HVAC (heating and cooling) system
- HVAC demo work means the heating/cooling system covering our office will be shut down (be prepared!)
- Phone guys will be back Monday
- Work will begin on the new sprinkler system; ceiling tiles will be moved in rooms in the north wing
HEADS UP
- Remember to stay away from the construction machinery
- Handicapped parking stall near the NW entry is for cars displaying legal handicapped parking stickers only!
- Dress in layers next week; by mid-week HAVC demo work may cause it to be too hot, too cold and a bit humid. This should only affect the main office area.
THANK YOU
We’d like to express our thanks to faculty, students and staff for their continuing patience and flexibility as our building project progresses. While it’s a little disruptive over the summer we can look forward to some great new space this fall!
