Our condolences to family and friends of ACE instructor, Kay Parks
June 24, 2008 | EditorIt is with great sadness that we report the death of Catherine (Kay) Parks, Adult and Continuing Education instructor at Middleton Senior Center. Kay was an outstanding teacher, had been recognized as an MATC Teacher of the Year, and was a kind, caring person. She had suffered from cancer and was only 63 years old.

MADISON
Catherine E. Parks, age 63, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 24, 1944, in Freeport, Ill., the daughter of Joseph and Emily (Roche) Sieffert. She had been employed by Madison Area Technical College, where she taught continuing education courses at the Middleton Senior Center and prior to that she taught at the Oscar Mayer Training Center. Catherine was a member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge groups, tailgating at Badgers football games, biking, skiing, visiting the cottage on Lake Towanda, laughing with her children and her sisters, walking her dog, Toby, and traveling with her good friends, Jim and Marilyn.
Catherine was united in marriage with Charles Parks on Dec. 17, 1966, in Freeport, Ill. In addition to her husband, Charlie; survivors include a daughter, Andrea Parks of Sun Prairie; a son, Timothy Parks of Stevens Point; nine sisters, Shirley (Leonard) Nelson, Carol (Robert) Mohr, Betsy (Tim) Solbrig, Peg (Steve) LaForge, Nancy Robison, Ginny (Bill) Kussner, Emily (Todd) McCarthy, Teresa (John) Topham, and Barb (John) Fisher; four sisters-in-law, Dottie and Jean Sieffert, Penny (Ralph) Nickel, and Kris (Joe) Miracle; a brother-in-law, Harry (Diane) Parks; a special aunt, Jan Parks; as well as, many nieces and nephews. Catherine was preceded in death by a son, Charles; her parents; a sister, Judy; four brothers, Tom, Don, Bill, and Bob; and her good friends, Doris and Melvin Dixon.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008, at ST. ALBERT THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2402 St. Albert Drive, Sun Prairie, where friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday and again from 10 a.m. until time of Mass on Thursday. Monsignor Terrence L. Connors will officiate.

The family sends a special “thank you” to the nurses on the Bone Marrow Transplant floor of University Hospital, the staff of Oaks Golf Course and Catherine’s students and the staff at the Middleton Senior Center.
