The Nefrons posePlease join us for the second annual Concert in the Park with MATC’s own Bob Dinndorf and the Nefrons on Monday, July 21.

The Nefrons, a Madison a capella group, sing doo-wop favorites, including: “Sixteen Candles,” “Blue Moon,” “Tears on My Pillow,” and “Save the Last Dance” and many more doo-wop classics. Free admission. In case of rain, the event will move across the street to Trinity Lutheran Church. Check out The Nefrons on their website.

If you’ve have children, feel free to bring them. They can listen to music and play in the park. The youth from Frieden’s UCC will host an ice cream social at 6:30 p.m. followed by the concert at 7:30 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair or a blanket. A limited number of metal folding chairs are normally provided at the concert site.

If you’re thinking of a little pre- or post-concert social time, the Velvet Lips is flooded, however, the same owner has opened an outdoor patio, Catfish Alley, and they’re serving drinks there. Catfish Alley is located on Main Street, just off the south end of the bridge, next to I Love Funky’s.

Too busy to cook before the concert? Timber Creek is one block past the park (kitty corner from Sentry Foods) and serves pizza and subs. Timber Creek is a short walk from Barrie Park.

Sandwiches are also served at The Blackhawk (corner of S. Main St. and E. Milwaukee Ave.) or at Fat Boyz ( 219 S. Main St.). To get to Main St. - cross the Robert Street Bridge (2 blocks south of Barrie Park) and take the next left onto Milwaukee Ave. The Blackhawk is on the corner by the traffic lights. Fat Boyz is a right turn at the light on Main St. then half a block down from the Blackhawk and across the street. Both are about a five-minute drive from Barrie Park.

Just remember to save room for dessert … the ice cream social is a fundraiser for the local youth group. Treats are offered at reasonable prices. The concert is free!

Hope to see you on Monday night.
