Web tool allows students to assess their readiness for online learning

I’m pleased to announce that we have a pilot of a new tool that allows students to assess themselves on their readiness for online and hybrid courses. This tool is called READI and is an Internet-based program that includes self-assessment surveys and practical exercises to give the student an idea of his or her strengths and weaknesses for online courses.

READI provides feedback on reading comprehension, technical competency, technical knowledge and personal attributes. A customized report is generated for each student, with references for free online resources for areas in which they might need help.

This web-based program is free and takes about 30 minutes to complete. It may be taken in sections if so desired. To have a student take a READI assessment, have them go to the READI site and

  • Select the Group: MATC
  • Enter the password: wolfpack

The student will then be taken to the READI assessment where he or she will have to enter his or her name, email and answer a few questions…then it’s off to the assessment.
Also feel free to go and try the assessment yourself.

Please disseminate to the students and fellow faculty. We’d like to get an idea of how useful this tool is, and need a good sample size to do so. The assessment is open to all, even potential students.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please let me know. If you’d like to find out more about READI please give me a call.

One best practice tip: We’re not requiring student IDs, only names. If you’re teaching, and would like to see your students’ reports, it is easiest if you ask them to email you their report (an easy option they have at end of assessment). Some instructors make it part of their course requirements, others give extra credit. Otherwise, I would be willing to filter and provide any custom reports you may want.

Thanks again,
