Summer IT tour and presentation for high school teachers a success

In July, 12 high school teachers participated in a presentation and tour focusing on Information Technology programs at MATC. The presentation and tour was part of a week-long professional development program offered for high school teachers by the John Muir Institute. Information Technology department faculty and staff who participated included Mike Bender, Andy Czerkas, Cheryl Halle, Ron Koci, Ken McCullough, Craig Newman, Brent Sieling and John Tomczak.
The participants were given a tour of the MATC/Cisco Networking Center followed by a brief presentation on each of the six IT programs by IT faculty. Then the group was given a tour of IT labs in the Truax building and a presentation of the video documenting the Girl Tech Summer Camp.
A survey of the participants found that 100% strongly agreed that the IT department presentation/tour was informative, that the presentation was relevant and that the it should be included in next year’s offerings.
We’d like to share these comments from high school teachers attending the IT department presentation/tour:
“A huge shoutout of thank yous for spending some of your valuable time with us. I feel like you have empowered me to be a recruiter, not only for your department, but also for the college. I will certainly be sharing your information with my students and their parents.”
“Thank you for the wonderfully informative tour of your department. It has inspired me to do so much more to prepare my students for being successful in college.”
“Thanks so much for the eye-opening tour of your department! I teach ESL, so I wasn’t expecting to hear anything useful, but how wrong I was! My students, largely low income, work very hard at school and jobs, and need quick, job‑related results at school.”
Thanks to all involved!
