Successful event kicks off new 3MSP program
September 21, 2008 | EditorThe Office of Diversity and Community Relations, the Student Development Center, and the Financial Aid Office kicked off the new Minority Males Mentoring Scholars Program (3MSP) last week with a dinner and social event. Attending were the first group of mentees (new or continuing minority male students) and their mentors.
Funded by the MATC Foundation as an Innovation Grant, the main focus of 3MSP is to provide male students of color mentorship opportunities through work study, weekly peer group activities and assigned MATC staff mentors within the college. The overall goal of the 3MSP is to increase retention, academic and personal success, and create a sense of “community among participants.
Participants are expected to participate in various leadership, academic and life-skills activities through weekly small-group and individual mentor meetings.
Mentors from MATC and the Madison community have stepped forward to help and support these students. Special thanks to current mentors Pedro Albeiter, Ken Black, Tony Cina, Jerome Dillard, Jeremiah Holiday, Rev. Eugene Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Derrick Jones, Drew McKinney, Bobby Moore, Juan Morales, Walter Reglin, Luis Rey, Antonio Rivas, Alex Thor, Hiep Van Dong, Jerry Vang and Ken Whitehorse.
