By popular demand Reading Together is back!
On a limited scale this time, we will offer a book reading group this fall. The selected text is My Freshman Year: What a Professor Learned by Becoming a Student by Rebekah Nathan. This fall CETL will sponsor one or two small reading groups at Truax with the intention of sponsoring others second semester on a variety of campuses if there is interest.
“My Freshman Year is unpretentious and yet full of insights and sharp observations. It is novel, spare, and speaks (delightfully) to many interests. Rebekah Nathan’s careful fieldwork and savvy topical selection provide a moving and important take on American college life.”-John Van Maanen, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The reading groups will meet weekly for four weeks to discuss the book and its implications for our work at MATC. We will offer one group during the lunch hour and one group later in the day. Groups will begin their discussions the week of October 20th. The lunch hour group will meet at 12:30 PM on Wednesdays (October 22, 29, November 5, 12), the afternoon group will meet at 3:30 PM on Thursdays (October 23, 30, November 6, 12). All meetings will be in the CETL open space.
Copies of the book are available at a discount ($11.00) at the MATC Bookstore. Other local vendors will have it available. Check out the book at Amazon.
