RE: Building Closure Information
The recent severe weather has brought to light the need to once again remind staff of building closure procedures and important phone numbers.
When severe weather is forecasted, MATC administrative staff monitors the weather situation throughout the day and evening hours. We make every attempt to make timely decisions and communicate the status to our staff and students using various communication methods.
Should the decision be made to close any of MATC’s buildings, it is important to know that the closure includes any evening classes and activities scheduled for the particular day.
As soon as the decision to close a building is known, staff notifies local TV and radio stations, updates the MATC homepage with information on the closure, and sends email messages to our staff and students. It’s also important that students and staff be aware of two very important phone numbers:
The first is the official MATC Madison Building Closure/Weather Hotline (608-246-6606). This phone number is the first phone to be updated with the most recent information regarding MATC building closures. Every attempt is made to keep this as accurate as possible, and should be the number called when checking on the status of any MATC building.
The second phone number staff should be aware of is that of our
Security Services office (608-243-4357). As you know, MATC has security staff at their Madison municipality locations. If you ever arrive at one of the MATC Madison buildings and are unable to enter on a day when the building is to be open, call 608-243-4587 immediately. Security Services staff will be dispatched to the location and staff will be allowed access to the building.
Each of MATC’s regional campuses maintains its own procedures for building related incidents. Staff from the regional campuses should contact their individual campus location for specific information.
As always, we encourage individual students and staff to make their own decision with consideration for their personal situation, and hope you will use the above information as an additional resource.
