Alternative Breaks Program Needs Help
December 17, 2008 | wbessetteEvery year the Volunteer Center coordinates the Alternative Breaks program. Groups of students travel and do service in another part of the country to learn about social, economic, environmental and other issues.
The students that coordinate these programs serve as leaders to their group. However, we also seek an additional staff or faculty member to assist with leadership responsibilities on the trip.
Currently, we are looking for interested staff or faculty members to assist with leading the Alternative Winter Break Trips to Florida City, Florida and Biloxi, Mississippi from January 3–10.
Following are common responsibilities for trip leaders:
Prior to the trip
1. Attend trip leader training session.
2. Attend orientation scheduled prior to service to meet the students and become familiar with the program and its goals (December 12th).
During the trip (detailed descriptions in staff trip leader handbook and will be covered in above training)
1. Carry out the protocol for any crisis situations that occur.
2. Assist community partner with facilitation of reflection activities.
3. Provide program leadership while traveling and model the way for the students.
4. Carry with you at all times the binder with Emergency contact info, copy of code of conduct forms
