Memorial Service for Ed Rico

Those of you who knew and worked with Ed Rico, our long-time History part-time faculty member, may be interested to know that a memorial service has been arranged for Saturday, January 10, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the United Way, 2059 Atwood Ave, in Madison (close to Monty’s Blue Plate). 

Here is a copy of Ed’s obituary:

Edward Jean Rico, age 66, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 22, 1942, in Minneapolis, the son of Pat Rico and Jeanne (Rieger) Rico Olson. Ed was formerly the Dane County Employee Relations Manager, and more recently taught for Madison Area Technical College and the Madison Metropolitan School District. Ed loved history, politics, movies, art and the beat poets. Whether by box car or jet plane he traveled all 50 states, often with a friend in tow. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father Wallace Olson. He is survived by his sister, Carmen Sanchez of New Mexico; brother, Doug Olson of Arizona; his children, Jason (Cynthia) Rico of Hampton, Minn, Kirsten Rico of Sauk Rapids, Minn., and Adrienne Rico of White Bear Lake, Minn.; and his grandchildren, Diana, Derek, Chris, Daren, Amanda, Matt, Dawson and Lianna. Ed, we will miss you. Rest in peace Dad, we love you lots! Donations in memory of Ed can be sent to HospiceCare, 5395 E.
