Important Note About Textbook Adoption Requests

It has come to our attention that MATC faculty recently received an
e-mail from Madison Textbooks requesting information on textbook adoptions for the upcoming summer and fall semesters.

The e-mail indicates the request should be considered as a request pursuant to the Wisconsin Public Records Act. This e-mail does not constitute such a request. The e-mail further states that Carolyn Jarrett, MATC’s Legal Counsel, directed them to contact faculty directly—this is not true.

All open record requests should come through the MATC legal counsel office. If you question whether a request for information is a formal request under the Wisconsin Public Records Act, please forward it to Carolyn. If you do provide information, which MATC had not identified as a final and formal record, any errors, misinformation, misunderstanding of the data, or issues that may arise due to the voluntary release will not be a liability to the College. Carolyn Jarrett, Legal Counsel, does not recommend the release of any voluntary information because of the potential liability associated with the release of erroneous information.
