New Postage Rates Kick-in Today

May 8, 2009 | wbessette

Starting today (May 11), stamps for First Class letters will be 44 cents. If you need stamps, buy the Forever Stamps for 42 cents and the value will automatically increase. Also, postcards will increase to 28 cents and square cards will now be 64 cents.

There have also been new rule and regulation changes on updating all addresses. The USPS requires all mailing lists be updated with change of addresses every 90 days. This means that every mailing you will be responsible to either make changes to addresses or pay an additional fee to have this service performed. Please check with the Mail Center before you do any large mailings.

Those “9 x12″ envelopes (referred to as flats) and booklets have changes on the placement of the address. Both the address and the return address are now required to be on the same half of the envelope. I realize this can be confusing, so again, please stop in and see us when you pick up your mail.

Postage budgets will again be affected by this rate change. Failure to apply these new changes can result in substantial penalties. We’re here to help you save money by working with our customers and the USPS.
