More Bogus Emails!
July 27, 2009 | wbessette
We’re once again receiving phony emails that appear to be sent from our IT department. The emails request either conformation, verification or “upgrade” of your email accounts. These messages are NOT coming from the MATC Help Desk. Please DO NOT respond to them.
Here’s an example of the bogus emails:
Dear Webmail Users,
This message is our WebMail Messaging Help Center to all our email users (Student and Staff). We are currently upgrading our data base and e-mail center as well deleting all unused WebMail account to create more space for new accounts. In other not to be suspended or deleted, you will have to update your account by providing the information listed below:
CONFIRM YOUR WEBMAIL IDENTITY BELOW.
Email ID:
Password:
Date of Birth:
You will be sent a new confirmation alphanumerical password so that it will only be valid during this period and can be changed after the process. We are very sorry for the inconvenience this may have cost you.
Thanks for your understanding.
IT Help Desk.
Again, NONE of these emails are being sent by MATC or the MATC Help Desk and they have nothing to do with the GroupWise to Outlook migration. Any email sent by the MATC Help Desk would come from “Staff Helpdesk” and the email address would be staffhelpdesk@matcmadison.edu. You would never be asked to send confidential information such as a login ID or password via email. If you receive any email that you find questionable or are uncertain of its origin, please do NOT respond to it, and contact the MATC Help Desk immediately (6666).
Thank you!
